The 2004-2012 Ford Ranger for the North American market has a passenger-compartment fuse panel and an under-hood power distribution box. Assignments vary by model year and by the 2.3, 3.0 or 4.0 engine, so the tables below retain the important year- and engine-specific differences.
Do not confuse this truck with the European 2006-2011 Ranger Mk2. The names and some model years overlap, but these are different vehicles with different fuse boxes and numbering.
Where are the fuse boxes in a 2004-2012 Ford Ranger?
Passenger-compartment fuse panel: located on the passenger side behind a panel in the lower footwell. It includes circuits for the radio, OBD-II connector, cigarette lighter/power outlet, exterior lights, central locking and part of the 4×4 system.
Under-hood power distribution box: located in the engine compartment. Ford used a different relay layout for the 2.3-liter engine than for the 3.0- and 4.0-liter engines, so both diagrams are shown below.

These model years are particularly easy to confuse with the European Ranger. If the vehicle is a European-market PJ/PK, use the Ranger Mk2 fuse guide instead.

Important year and engine differences
For 2007-2012, the fuel-pump circuit changed: fuse 23 increased from 20 A to 30 A and also supplies the injectors. From 2008, the main wiper/washer supply moved to fuse 29 – 30 A under the hood, while passenger-panel fuse 5 became the 5 A module-control feed.
The 2.3-liter version uses different fan, starter and A/C relays from the 3.0/4.0 versions. Do not identify a relay by position alone without checking the engine.
FAQ – 2004-2012 Ford Ranger fuses
Why can two 2008 Rangers have completely different fuse boxes?
During the same period, Ford sold the North American Ranger and a structurally different European-market Ranger. Mixing those two versions is the most common reason for conflicting diagrams online.
What should I check if both the cigarette lighter and OBD-II connector stop working?
Both are associated with passenger-panel fuse 29 – 20 A, so that fuse is a logical first check if both fail at the same time.
Why is the fuel-pump fuse 20 A in one table and 30 A in another?
Ford changed the circuit. Fuse 23 is 20 A for 2004-2006 and 30 A for 2007-2012, when it also supplies the injectors.
Does the 2.3 diagram apply to the 4.0 engine?
Not completely. The main fuse positions are shared, but several relay positions and functions differ. That is why separate under-hood diagrams are provided for the 2.3 and 3.0/4.0 engines.
What changed in the wiper circuit after 2007?
On 2008-2012 trucks, the main wiper/washer circuit is protected by under-hood fuse 29 – 30 A, while passenger-panel fuse 5 is a 5 A control feed for the wiper module.
