Ford S-Max Mk1 (2006-2014) – Fuse Box Diagrams and Relays

The Ford S-Max Mk1 (2006-2014) uses three main fuse boxes: an engine compartment box, a central passenger-compartment box and a rear distribution unit. The arrangement changed around the 2010 facelift, so the correct diagram depends on build date, engine, body equipment and the actual fuse carrier fitted.

The early central box contains F1-F28, while the later panel has F1-F24. It is important to distinguish these layouts: a fuse at the same position may protect a completely different device. This guide retains all engine-dependent ratings, spare slots and separate rear-box versions.

Where are the fuse boxes in Ford S-Max Mk1?

Under the bonnet: switch the ignition off, open the bonnet and locate the covered fuse and relay box beside the battery. Release the retaining clips and lift the protective cover. This box includes F1-F45 and high-current protection for ABS, cooling, power steering, the heated windscreen and the other fuse carriers.

Central box: access the lower dashboard on the passenger side. According to Ford’s service instructions, release the cover clips, remove the cover, turn the retaining knob through 90 degrees and carefully lower the panel from its bracket. The layout differs between early and post-facelift vehicles and may be mirrored for left- and right-hand-drive models.

Rear box: open the luggage compartment and release the side trim cover to access sections FA, FB and FC. These protect door modules, power seats, rear climate systems, the electric parking brake and optional seven-seat equipment. Close all covers securely when finished.

The full table includes later electrical and powertrain variants. Many fuse positions have more than one documented rating because the same location serves a different circuit on a different engine or gearbox. For example, F1 is 10 A with AWF21 and 15 A with MPS6 PowerShift. F3 can be a high-current cooling fan or EHPAS steering fuse.

Central passenger fuse box 2006-2009 – F1-F28

In the first-generation pre-facelift configuration the central fuse carrier has 28 positions. The cigarette lighter is F19 (15 A) and the fuel pump is normally F22 (20 A), or 7.5 A for the specified 2.2 Duratorq version. The diagram for this early carrier must match the actual F1-F28 layout. It is not the same as the 24-position diagram below.

Rear luggage compartment fuse box – post-facelift

Three fuse groups FA, FB and FC cover door electronics, seats, keyless entry, the parking brake and rear air conditioning. In particular, FC2 and FC3 each supply a 30 A electric parking-brake circuit on relevant later vehicles.

Rear fuse box – differences before the facelift

Many fuse positions remain in the same physical housing, but equipment is moved between sockets. The following comparison lists every documented change between the early and later rear-box assignments; other positions retain substantially the same functions where fitted.

Practical fuse checks and engine differences

Only half the heated windscreen works: check the two separate 40 A feeds: F34 for the left half and F35 for the right half. A failure on one side need not affect the other.

Fuel pump not running: first identify the cabin fuse box by its 28 or 24 positions. The early chart shows F22; the later chart uses F13. Do not move a 20 A fuse into a 7.5 A installation on a 2.2 TDCi Stage V.

Rear climate control or EPB fault: inspect the rear FA/FB/FC group, not only the dashboard panel. The allocation for rear climate control, keyless entry and the parking brake changed around the facelift.

Transmission fault or incorrect F1 rating: the AWF21 automatic gearbox is documented with a 10 A transmission control fuse; the MPS6 PowerShift variant uses 15 A. Match the exact transmission type.

Fuse repeatedly blows: inspect the protected circuit for overloads, damaged connectors or wiring faults. Never raise the fuse rating to bypass the problem. Ford’s original fuse assignment for the vehicle takes precedence where several engines or production periods are covered.

Although the S-Max shares a platform with the Ford Mondeo Mk4, rear climate, power seat and seven-seat circuits differ. Compare the actual model’s chart rather than transplanting Mondeo fuse numbers. The closely related Ford Galaxy Mk2 has its own fuse assignments and equipment-specific tables.
