The Volkswagen ID.4 (introduced in 2020) and Volkswagen ID.5 (introduced in 2021) are MEB-platform electric vehicles. This guide covers the 2020-2022 fuse box arrangements, including the main front compartment box SB, high-current SA protection, dashboard panel SC, spare slots and relays. Keeping the unused positions in the tables makes it easier to identify slots against the original diagrams.
Fuse assignments can differ by model year, market, equipment, rear-motor drive or dual-motor 4Motion specification. Do not assume these 2020-2022 layouts apply unchanged after later model updates. Consult the actual fuse cover labels before replacing any fuse.
Where are the fuse boxes in a Volkswagen ID.4 or ID.5?
Front compartment SB: the main box is under a clipped plastic lid in the front of the vehicle. After switching off the vehicle, release the box cover carefully and use the position diagram inside it.
Dashboard SC: left-hand-drive vehicles generally provide access behind the side cover on the driver’s side of the dashboard with the door open. On right-hand-drive cars, access can be via the passenger side and may require opening or removing interior trim.
High-current SA: the primary power supply block is near the low-voltage distribution wiring in the front compartment. Its bolted high-current links should be serviced by qualified personnel. These 12 V distribution protections are not the same as the separate high-voltage traction-system components. Do not touch orange high-voltage wiring.
Under-hood fuse box SB – positions F1-F32 and relays
The SB box covers lighting, front wipers, ABS, brake assistance, electric powertrain controls, cooling fans, heated windscreen and the horn. The diagram includes 32 fuse positions and six relay positions, even where a slot is not populated.

Main high-current fuse panel SA
The SA block connects the auxiliary 12 V supply to the voltage converter, steering and major fuse panels. It uses high-current bolted protection that should not be interchanged with standard passenger compartment blade fuses.

| Position | Amperage [A] | Protected circuit / function |
|---|---|---|
| 508 | – | Auxiliary 12 V battery connection point, not a replaceable fuse |
| SA1 | 350 | Voltage converter |
| SA2 | 80 | 12 V battery monitor and power steering controller |
| SA3 | 100 | Cabin fuse box C power supply |
| SA4 | 100 | Cabin fuse box C power supply |
| SA5 | – | Unoccupied slot |
| SA6 | 125 | Front fuse box B power supply |
SA1 (350 A) protects the voltage converter supply, SA2 (80 A) supplies the 12 V battery monitor and power steering control, SA3 and SA4 are both 100 A feeds to panel C, and SA6 (125 A) supplies panel B. SA5 is unoccupied in this layout. Position 508 is an auxiliary battery connection point rather than a fuse.
Dashboard fuse box SC – passenger compartment
The SC assembly includes 67 labelled SC slots and three relays. It serves doors, windows, infotainment, lighting, communications, air conditioning, safety electronics, 12 V sockets, USB ports and optional equipment. Ratings with two alternatives depend on vehicle version and must be checked against the installed diagram.

Where are the 12 V socket, USB and infotainment fuses?
The 12 V accessory socket circuit 3 is protected by SC52 (20 A). USB charging uses SC48 (7.5 or 10 A), and the first USB connector is also associated with SC20 (7.5 or 10 A). The infotainment control unit uses SC30 (25 or 20 A, depending on configuration), while the audio amplifier uses SC14 (30 A). Relay R1 controls 12 V power outlet supply.
Cameras, radar and driver assistance circuits
SC4 (7.5 A) supplies the front assistance camera, SC17 (5 A) supplies parking and lane-change modules, and SC21 (7.5 A) protects tailgate control and the surround-view camera system. eCall communications and the driver display are associated with SC19 (5 A). Diagnostic control uses SC41 (5 A), with a separate diagnostic socket at SC60 (7.5 A).
Central door locking uses SC13 (40 A), door and window controllers use SC9 and SC26 (30 A each), cabin blower SC36 (40 A), rear wiper SC66 (15 A), and the heated rear window SC67 (30 A). Which side of the vehicle is supplied by SC9 or SC26 varies with left-hand- or right-hand-drive equipment.
Additional fuses A-D
Some vehicles include a supplementary small fuse block. It may protect electrically adjustable seats and, outside some European markets, the trailer electric-brake controller. Do not assume all positions are fitted on European vehicles.
| Position | Amperage [A] | Protected circuit / function |
|---|---|---|
| A | 30 | Electric trailer brake control, available on certain markets outside Europe |
| B | – | Unoccupied slot |
| C | 15 | Power driver seat controller |
| D | 15 | Power passenger seat controller |
Differences between ID.4, ID.5 and model years
Although they share the Volkswagen Group MEB platform, the exact fuse population can depend on model year, 4Motion drivetrain, market and installed options. The alternative-rated positions SC20, SC30, SC40, SC46 and SC48 should always be matched to the vehicle’s documentation.
For another MEB-based electric SUV, see the Skoda Enyaq fuse guide. For a comparison with electric vehicles from another manufacturer, see the Kia EV6 fuse diagrams and Hyundai Ioniq 5 fuse diagrams. Both use different architecture and fuse positions, so their diagrams are not interchangeable with Volkswagen ID models.
Volkswagen ID.4 and ID.5 fuse box FAQ
Where is the passenger compartment fuse box?
In left-hand-drive cars, behind the side cover of the dashboard on the driver’s side. In right-hand-drive cars, access may be on the passenger side.
Which fuse protects the 12 V accessory socket?
The listed 2020-2022 SC layout specifies SC52, 20 A, for the third 12 V accessory socket circuit. Check which sockets are equipped on your specific car.
Where are the front and rear wiper fuses?
The front wipers use under-hood SB fuse positions F7 and F10, each rated 30 A. The rear wiper uses dashboard SC66, 15 A.
Can ID.4 fuse diagrams be used for every ID.5?
Not without verifying the configuration. Year, control electronics, drivetrain and optional equipment may differ despite the shared platform, especially after later updates.
