Volkswagen Polo VI (2017-2020) – Fuse Box Diagrams

Volkswagen Polo VI (AW, 2017-2020) uses three principal fuse arrangements: a passenger compartment panel, a smaller engine compartment fuse box and a high-current electrical distribution block beside the battery. The exact circuits vary with petrol 1.0 MPI, 1.0 TSI, 1.5 TSI, 2.0 TSI, diesel 1.6 TDI, natural-gas variants, DSG and equipment options.

This English reference preserves all 94 original table entries: 60 listed interior fuses (F1-F61 with F16 absent from the source listing), 28 engine-bay entries (F1-F29 with F16 absent), and six main battery distribution positions. Do not infer that a missing fuse number or blank position should contain a fuse. The illustrated electrical housing is a general reference; check the vehicle-specific lid and original manual.

Where are the Volkswagen Polo VI fuse boxes?

Passenger compartment: beneath the driver’s side dashboard behind a cover. Engine compartment: in the electrical box by the battery, under a clipped protective cover. Main battery fuses: a separate high-current block near the battery provides power to the alternator, steering and two smaller fuse-box supplies. Turn off the ignition before inspection; high-current work is intended for a specialist.

Volkswagen Polo VI engine compartment fuses F1-F29

The engine panel contains engine ECU, emissions equipment, fuel pump power, brake light switch, starter, DSG mechatronic power and ABS supplies. The tables preserve alternatives for 1.6 TDI, 2.0 TSI and petrol/CNG variants rather than assigning every circuit to every engine.

Starter motor: engine F18 (30 A). ABS electronics: engine F20 (40 or 60 A) plus F21 (25 A) depending on variant. ECM: engine F1 (10, 15 or 30 A) and other smaller ECU feeds. Dual-clutch gearbox: engine F15 (15 or 30 A). Do not install the largest listed rating in a car originally fitted with a smaller fuse.

Volkswagen Polo VI high-current battery fuses

The battery-top power distribution block has six labelled positions and is not part of the smaller F1-F29 engine module. The documented layout lists alternator position 1 (350 A), engine fuse box feed 3 (150 A), dashboard feeds 4 (80 A) and 5 (125 A), and electric steering feed 6 (80 A). Position 2 is designated unused despite an 80 A value appearing in the archived table; that printed current is not an instruction to populate an empty slot.

Position Rating Protected circuit / function
1 350 A Alternator charging circuit
2 80 A Unused distribution slot, with an 80 A rating shown in the source
3 150 A Main engine-compartment fuse box power feed
4 80 A Dashboard fuse box secondary supply
5 125 A Dashboard fuse box primary supply
6 80 A Electric power steering main supply

Polo VI: 12 V outlet, wipers, radio, engine and brake faults

For a dead lighter, disconnect chargers, inspect the socket and check cabin F55 (20 A). The USB charger has a different circuit, cabin F51 (7.5 A). If the rear wiper or washer stops, inspect F43 (15 A) and F58 (7.5 A), respectively, plus the wiring and motor.

For a multimedia failure check cabin F19 (25 A), together with optional amplifier F3 (30 A) and USB F51 (7.5 A) as equipped. Starting faults may involve engine F18 (30 A) but also the battery, starter control, clutch switch and engine ECU power; do not treat a good fuse as proof the starter works. ABS power at engine F20/F21 is configuration-dependent.

For related MQB A0 cars with different fuse assignments, see the Volkswagen T-Cross (2019-2023) and SEAT Ibiza V (2018). For related but different fuse arrangements, compare the Škoda Scala (2019-2020) or Škoda Citigo (2012). The similar-looking Volkswagen platform does not establish identical fuse numbering.

Volkswagen Polo VI 2017-2020 fuse box FAQ

Where is the cigarette lighter fuse?

Interior position F55, rated 20 A in the referenced layout.

Which fuse protects the USB charger?

Interior F51 (7.5 A) for USB charging socket 1.

Where are the main power fuses?

In a separate high-current distribution block by the engine-bay battery, positions 1-6.

Does F16 exist in the fuse table?

The original source lists 60 cabin entries labelled F1-F61 and 28 engine entries labelled F1-F29, omitting F16 in both lists. Do not renumber the remaining fuses to close this gap.

Can all engines use the same ampere ratings?

No. The 1.6 TDI, petrol and DSG variants have different ECU, cooling fan and heater supply ratings. Confirm the rating for the actual car.

Use only the fuse type and ampere rating specified by the vehicle manufacturer. Replace repeated blown fuses only after diagnosing the protected circuit; do not bridge high-current battery protection.
