Citroen C2 (2003-2009) – fuse box diagrams and locations

The Citroen C2 has two main fuse boxes – one in the passenger compartment and one in the engine bay. On this model it is especially important to match the diagram to the production period. Around 2005, both the fuse-box layout and the numbering of many circuits changed.

One table should therefore not be used for every 2003-2009 C2. For example, on a 2004 car the cigarette lighter is assigned to F22, while the later configuration uses F9. The differences in the under-hood fuse box are just as significant.

For a vehicle from the transition period, first compare the physical fuse layout with the drawing and only then use the relevant table. Always replace a fuse with the rating specified for that particular vehicle.

Fuse box locations

The passenger compartment fuse box is located below the dashboard. Access and the appearance of the panel differ between the earliest C2 models and cars built after the electrical-system changes introduced around 2005.

The engine compartment fuse box is next to the battery. To access the fuses, remove the battery cover and the fuse-box cover. After checking the fuses, close the housing securely again.

The C2 is closely related to the first-generation Citroen C3. Earlier versions of both models may use similar BSI solutions, but you should not assume that every fuse number has the same function.

Citroen C2 before and after 2005 – how to identify the correct diagram

The easiest method is to compare the shape and numbering of the actual fuse box. The early passenger-compartment panel uses, among others, positions F1, F4, F6, F7, F10, F12, F14-F16 and F21-F22. The later layout is characterised by F3-F6, F8-F12, F14-F15, F17 and the F18 shunt.

The difference under the hood is even greater. The early fuse box has positions up to F18 and separate headlight fuses, whereas the later layout described in the 2008 C2 owner’s manual uses F1-F14 in the user fuse table.

Treat 2005 as a transition period. If the physical layout does not match the drawing expected for the model year, follow the appearance of the actual fuse box and documentation for that specific vehicle.

Passenger compartment fuse box – early 2003-2004 version

The diagram below shows the older panel used before the electrical-system change. Individual fuse positions are clearly visible without the rest of the owner’s manual page.

The 2004 C2 owner’s manual lists the following main circuits:

Fuse Rating [A] Function
F1 15 Diagnostic connector, tow-bar / trailer wiring – depending on equipment
F4 20 Display, navigation, alarm, radio
F6 10 Control components and sensors related to steering / transmission – depending on version
F7 15 Light-level sensor, alarm
F10 40 Heated rear window and heated exterior mirrors
F12 30 Front power windows; on some versions also the electric roof
F14 10 Airbag control unit, engine-compartment fuse-box supply
F15 15 Display, navigation, air conditioning, parking sensors, radio
F16 30 Central locking / deadlocking
F21 15 High-mounted third brake light
F22 20* Cigarette lighter, interior lighting, electric mirrors – depending on equipment

* Documentation differs on F22. The table based on the 2004 C2 owner’s manual gives 20 A, while some later technical references for the “pre-2005” fuse box list 30 A. This is one position where it is particularly important to verify the rating specified for the actual fuse box. Do not increase F22 from 20 A to 30 A solely because an online diagram shows the higher value.

Extended diagrams for the older BSI additionally show, among others, F5 for the alarm siren, F11 for the rear wiper/washer and F20 for the right rear light. Their population can depend on market and BSI version, so for these positions it is safer to follow the markings for the specific module.

Engine compartment fuse box – early 2003-2004 version

The older engine-bay fuse box uses completely different numbering from the later module. The drawing below shows positions F1-F18 and the high-current fuse section.

Fuse Rating [A] Function according to 2004 C2 documentation
F1 10 Diesel engine preheating system
F2 15 Fuel pump
F3 10 Electronic control units
F4 10 Engine control unit and related circuits – depending on version
F5 – Version-dependent fitment – not assigned in the 2004 owner’s manual table used for verification
F6 15 Front fog lights
F7 20 Headlight washers
F8 20 Engine management system
F9 15 Left low-beam headlight
F10 15 Right low-beam headlight
F11 10 Left high-beam headlight
F12 10 Right high-beam headlight
F13 15 Horn
F14 10 Washer pump
F15 15 Engine-control actuators
F16 30 Secondary air pump – depending on engine
F17 30 Windshield wipers
F18 40 Electric cooling fan

The early fuse box has separate fuses for the left and right headlights. If the vehicle has this panel, do not use the later F1-F14 table because the same numbers refer to completely different consumers.

Passenger compartment fuse box – from around 2005

The later layout is well documented in the 2008 Citroen C2 owner’s manual. The diagram below shows the fuse positions clearly without the small illustration surrounded by manual text.

Fuse Rating [A] Function
F3 5 Airbags
F4 10 Diagnostic connector, particulate-filter additive system, clutch switch, steering-angle sensor
F5 30 No function assigned in the owner’s manual table
F6 30 Wiper / washer system – description differs between documentation editions
F8 20 Digital clock, steering-wheel controls, radio, display
F9 30 Cigarette lighter, digital clock, interior lighting, vanity mirror
F10 15 Alarm
F11 15 Ignition switch, diagnostic connector
F12 15 Airbag control unit, rain and light sensor
F14 15 Parking assistance, instrument cluster, air conditioning, Bluetooth telephone – depending on equipment
F15 30 Central locking, deadlocking
F17 40 Heated / demisted rear window
F18 SHUNT Customer / transport-mode shunt

Different descriptions are found for F6 30 A. The English 2008 owner’s manual uses the wording “Screen wash”, while 2006-2007 tables describe this position as a wiper circuit. When diagnosing a specific fault, confirm the position on the vehicle’s fuse box instead of relying only on the consumer name.

The most important practical change compared with the earlier C2 concerns the cigarette lighter: in this layout it is protected by F9 30 A, not F22.

Engine compartment fuse box – from around 2005

The later engine-bay module has a different design and numbering scheme. The technical drawing below is 600 px wide and makes the individual positions easy to read.

Clear technical diagram of the later Citroen C2 engine compartment fuse box with F1-F14 positions

Fuse Rating [A] Function
F1 20 Diesel water-in-fuel sensor
F2 15 Horn
F3 10 Windshield washer pump
F4 20 Headlight washers
F5 15 Fuel pump
F6 10 Power steering
F7 10 Coolant-level sensor
F8 25 Starter
F9 10 ABS and ESP control units
F10 30 Engine-control actuators – ignition coil, solenoids, oxygen sensor, injection; evaporative-emissions system – depending on engine
F11 40 Ventilation / heater blower
F12 30 Windshield wipers
F14 30 Air pump on petrol versions or diesel fuel heater – depending on engine

F1 and F14 show why different engine versions should not be treated identically. Some functions apply only to diesel engines, while others are used only on petrol cars.

If you are working on another PSA model using similar technology from the same period, there is a separate guide for the Citroen C3 Pluriel. Despite electrical similarities, C2 and C3 Pluriel diagrams should not be used interchangeably.

MAXI fuses and relays

The fuse boxes also contain high-current protection. The later C2 owner’s manual explicitly states that MAXI fuses provide additional protection for the main circuits and should be handled by a dealer or qualified workshop.

For the earliest versions, technical documentation shows an additional MF1-MF8 section, but its population depends on the vehicle configuration. We therefore do not present one MF table as universally correct for every 2003-2004 C2.

The same applies to relays. Some are integrated into the BSI module or the engine-compartment fuse box, and their configuration changes with engine and equipment. Relay diagnosis should use service documentation matched to the exact vehicle version.

FAQ – Citroen C2 fuses

Which fuse is for the cigarette lighter?

In the later configuration used from around 2005, the cigarette lighter is protected by F9 30 A in the passenger-compartment fuse box. On a 2003-2004 C2 with the earlier panel, it is F22; documentation for this early version requires the fuse rating to be checked on the specific panel.

Which fuse is for the starter?

In the later engine-bay fuse box, the starter is assigned to F8 25 A. The early 2003-2004 layout uses different numbering and F8 protects engine management there, so the two tables must not be mixed.

Which fuse is for the horn?

In the later fuse box from around 2005, it is F2 15 A. In the early under-hood configuration, the horn uses F13 15 A.

Which fuse is for the fuel pump?

In the later layout, the fuel pump is protected by F5 15 A. In the early 2004 fuse box, it is F2 15 A.

Which fuse is for the windshield wipers?

In the later engine-bay fuse box, the windshield wipers use F12 30 A. In the earlier 2004 configuration, they use F17 30 A.

Which fuse is for the heated rear window?

In the later layout, it is F17 40 A in the passenger compartment. On the early panel, it is F10 40 A, which also covers the heated mirrors.

Why does my 2005 C2 have a different fuse box?

The electrical system and fuse-box arrangement changed around 2005. Registration year alone is not always enough to identify the version. First compare the physical fuse layout with the appropriate diagram.

Can I replace a 20 A fuse with a 30 A fuse?

Do not increase the fuse rating simply because a diagram for another C2 version lists a different value. The fuse must have the rating specified for the exact fuse box and circuit in the vehicle.
