Volvo S80 II (2009) – Fuse Box Diagrams and Ratings

Volvo S80 II (model year 2009) belongs to the second generation, despite the old Polish archive title incorrectly calling it “mk1”. Its electrical system has a covered fuse box in the engine compartment, a separate panel beneath the front passenger glovebox and three individually numbered groups in the luggage compartment. Some S80 Executive vehicles also have an analogue clock fuse near the centre console.

This guide preserves 105 fuse entries in six complete tables from the archived 2009 article, with key ratings cross-checked against the official Volvo S80 USA model year 2009 owner’s manual. The original diagrams are small and some filenames mention 2010; use them as orientation, then check the actual car’s fuse-cover chart before replacement. Optional features and other markets may have a different fuse population.

Where are the Volvo S80 2009 fuse boxes?

The engine compartment box is near the battery and divides into upper, front and lower sections. Inside the car, remove the lower trim beneath the passenger glovebox to access positions 1-28. The boot fuse box is under the left luggage-compartment side trim and contains separate blocks A, B and D. The S80 Executive analogue-clock fuse is located near the centre console.

For this year, F5 (50 A) is a main electrical circuit breaker, not 60 A. F22 (20 A) is the I5T vacuum pump, F26 (10 A) covers optional moonroof/roof console and ECC, and F44 (80 A) is the radiator fan in the USA 2009 reference. The front and rear accessory outlets use F25 (15 A). Engine F9 (30 A) protects windscreen wipers, F11 (40 A) the cabin blower, F13 (40 A) the ABS pump and F29 (15 A) the horn.

For the preceding model year, see the Volvo S80 II (2008) fuse guide. Do not assume these engine-bay ratings carry over to the next year. The Volvo S80 II 2010 fuse chart documents a different 5 A F26 and several diesel-specific cooling and glow-plug ratings.

Volvo S80 2009 passenger compartment fuses 1-28

The cabin fuse box covers airbag and safety systems, radio, lighting, electronic steering lock, fuel pump and washers. F6 (15 A) supplies the ICM display, CD and radio; F14 (15 A) front washers; F22 (20 A) the fuel pump; and F27 (5 A) the engine START/STOP ignition button. That button should not be confused with an automatic engine Stop/Start fuel-saving feature.

Optional S80 Executive clock fuse

Selected Executive-equipped cars have a separate 5 A analogue clock fuse near the passenger side of the centre console. Not all S80 vehicles have this circuit.

Volvo S80 2009 luggage compartment modules

Behind the left boot trim, the rear fuse unit contains independent 12-position groups for powered doors, heated rear glass, electric seats, AWD, the parking brake and factory audio. Their numbering resets by module, so specifying only a fuse number without its module can identify the wrong circuit.

Rear module A – doors, 12 V cargo socket and trailer

A6 (15 A) protects the optional cargo 12 V socket or refrigerator; A7 (30 A) the heated rear window; and A11 (40 A) the main trailer electrical supply.

Volvo S80 II 2009 fuse box FAQ

Which fuse protects the cigarette lighter and front 12 V socket?

Engine compartment F25, rated 15 A; cargo socket uses rear module A6, also 15 A.

Where is the fuel pump fuse?

Under the passenger glovebox, F22 (20 A).

Which fuse is used for the radio?

Cabin fuse F6 (15 A), covering the ICM screen, CD and radio electronics.

Why is F26 not the same in 2009 and 2010?

The 2009 USA reference identifies F26 as 10 A for the sunroof and overhead console. The European MY2010 reference gives 5 A, so the car’s handbook and fitted fuse take priority.

Related but distinct models: Volvo XC70 II / V70 III and Volvo S60 II. Do not transfer fuse ratings between them.

Source check: Volvo S80 Owner’s Manual, US model year 2009, fuse section pp. 233-241. Use only factory-specified fuse ratings; investigate any repeated failure.
