Ford Ranger 2001-2003 – North American version has a fuse panel on the left side of the dashboard and an under-hood power-distribution box. The 2.3 L, 3.0 L and 4.0 L engines share much of the numbering, but several relay positions depend on engine and model year.
Previous: Ranger 1998-2000. For the later North American truck, see Ranger 2004-2012.
Fuse-box locations
Passenger compartment: on the left side of the dashboard, accessible with the driver’s door open. Engine compartment: the power-distribution box contains the high-current fuses and relays for the fuel pump, starter, PCM, ABS, blower, A/C and 4×4 systems.

Commonly checked circuits
- Cigarette lighter + OBD-II: cabin position 17 – 20 A.
- Auxiliary power point: cabin position 22 – 20 A.
- Fuel pump: under-hood position 23 – 20 A, with relay position depending on engine/year as listed in the table.
- ABS: cabin position 14 – 10 A; under-hood positions 6 – 50 A and 28 – 30 A.
FAQ – Ford Ranger 2001-2003 fuses
Why do trailer-tow positions 3 and 7 swap sides in 2003?
That is how the factory table is arranged: the left and right stop/turn assignments are reversed for 2003 compared with 2001-2002.
Why are there separate under-hood diagrams for the 3.0 L and 4.0 L engines?
The relay layout changed after the 2001 model year, so 2001 and 2002-2003 must be identified separately.
What should I check if the lighter and OBD-II connector both lose power?
Both use cabin position 17 – 20 A, making that fuse and its feed the first place to check.
