The first-generation Volvo C70 I (2002) was available as the Coupe and the electrically operated soft-top Convertible. Volvo’s 2002 Coupe & Convertible handbook identifies two engine compartment fuse boxes: a main block with 14 fuses and four relays, plus a separate supplementary panel with 42 positions, including automatic circuit breakers.
The year-specific tables preserve all 60 labelled positions and the two original schematic images. Main fuse 9 (60 A) applies to the Convertible electric windows only, while some other amperage ratings differ from both the 1999-2000 and later 2003-2005 guides. Do not substitute fuse values from other model years.
Where are the Volvo C70 2002 fuse boxes?
Main fuse and relay box: under a clipped cover inside the engine compartment, containing high-current starter, cooling, ABS and headlamp feeds. Volvo recommends qualified servicing of main high-current protection when a fuse has blown.
Supplementary fuse box: also in the engine compartment under a separate cover with a printed circuit legend. It protects lighting, radio, locks, 12 V accessories, wipers, seats and convertible roof equipment. The later C70 II has another electrical layout and different access locations.
Volvo C70 I 2002 main fuse box positions 1-14
The main box retains fuse 4 (50 A) for ABS, fuse 5 (50 A) for the main headlamp supply and fuse 12 (15 A) for the fuel pump, injectors and engine control supply. Main fuse 9 is rated 60 A for the Convertible power windows; a Coupe without that circuit should not be treated as missing a fuse.

For 2002, supplementary fuses 2 and 3 are each 15 A and the rear-window/mirror heating supply is fuse 14 (30 A). Do not use a 40 A value copied from the 1999 Convertible chart.

| Position | Rating [A] / type | Protected circuit / function |

| 12 | 30 | Additional factory amplifier/audio supply |
| 13 | 15 | Hazard warning lights and headlamp flash |
| 14 | 30 | Rear window and exterior mirror heating; the 2002 handbook specifies 30 A |
| 15 | 10 | Interior and door-open warning lights, boot, seatbelt reminder, glovebox and some window circuits |
| 16 | 30 | Electric aerial, trailer connector, accessories and optional CD changer |
| 17 | 20 | Front fog lamps, where fitted |

| 28 | 25 | Front heated seats, if fitted |
| 29 | 10 | Rear window and mirror heating, shiftlock, seatbelt reminder, cruise control, bulb-out warning, trailer connection and Convertible roof control |
| 30 | 15 | Front 12 V power outlet / cigarette lighter |
| 31 | 25 | Cabin air-conditioning and ventilation |
| 32 | 10 | Audio, Convertible roof electronics, electric aerial and boot lock, dashboard lighting and air conditioning |

| 41 | AUT/CB | Convertible soft-top automatic circuit breaker, located in central electrical unit |
| 42 | AUT/CB | Second Convertible soft-top automatic circuit breaker, located in central electrical unit |
Positions 37-42 are distinct from ordinary fuses: 37 and 38 protect passenger and driver power windows; 39 and 40 protect the corresponding power seats, while 41 and 42 are automatic circuit breakers for the Convertible folding roof. Do not replace them with conventional fuses or jumper wires.
Coupe and Convertible – which fuse layout applies?
Coupe: a permanently fixed roof. It does not use the same convertible-top motor protection, and main fuse position 9 can be unpopulated because the owner’s manual assigns it to Convertible electric windows only.
Convertible: an electrically folding fabric roof. Main fuse 9 (60 A) supplies power windows. Supplementary fuses 29, 32 and 35 (10 A each) are associated with the roof’s control and warning systems; automatic breakers 41 and 42 are for the soft top itself. If a roof circuit breaker trips, Volvo recommends waiting at least 20 seconds and investigating persistent overload rather than forcing the mechanism.
For a previous model year use the Volvo C70 2001 fuse guide; for Coupe and Convertible differences in earlier production, see the 1999-2000 Volvo C70 reference. The next production period is covered by the Volvo C70 2003-2005 fuse box guide, which also documents year-specific audio-fuse ratings. Fuse assignments and ratings should always be confirmed with the actual vehicle.
Volvo C70 2002 common electrical faults
Front cigarette lighter or 12 V outlet: supplementary fuse 30 (15 A). OBD II diagnostics: supplementary fuse 5 (15 A). Brake lamps: supplementary fuse 11 (10 A). Radio / amplifier: supplementary positions 7, 9 and 12. Note that supplementary position 9 (30 A) is the amplifier, while main position 9 is for Convertible windows.
Wipers and washer pumps: supplementary fuse 34 (25 A), including selected horn functions. Headlamps: supplementary 19 and 20 are high beams; 21 and 22 dipped beams, rated 15 A each.
Convertible folding roof: supplementary 29, 32, 35 (10 A each), plus breakers 41 and 42. Electric windows: main 9 (60 A, Convertible only), supplementary breakers 37 and 38. Heated rear window and mirrors: supplementary 14 (30 A).
Electric seats: supplementary breakers 39 (driver) and 40 (passenger), not roof breakers 41-42. If a seat jams, investigate the mechanism before resetting or replacing protection.
Volvo C70 2002 fuse box FAQ
Which fuse is used for the cigarette lighter?
Supplementary position 30 (15 A), under the bonnet.
Is main fuse 9 needed for a Coupe?
No. The manufacturer’s 2002 chart associates its 60 A fuse with Convertible electric windows only.
What are the automatic roof circuit breakers?
Supplementary positions 41 and 42 (AUT/CB), on Convertible models.
Which fuse protects the heated rear window?
Supplementary position 14 (30 A) in the 2002 factory reference.
Can I use the same fuses as a 1999 Convertible?
Not without checking the exact fuse ratings. For example, supplementary 14 may have a different ampere rating.
Always replace a blown fuse using the correct type and ampere rating. Repeated failures require checking wiring and the protected electrical equipment.
